Texas hosts the second largest veteran community in the nation, compromising 15% of the population.\n\n\"The 1.6 million veterans of Texas deserve more than a federal holiday celebrated once a year - they deserve quality healthcare, adequate mental health services, and housing assistance so no one who's sacrificed for our country is left without a roof over their head every night,\" said Rep. Crockett. \"To our Texas veterans, know this: you are seen, you are heard, and you are appreciated, on this day and every day. I appreciate Congressman Fallon and my fellow Texas members from both sides of the aisle for joining me in this effort to give Texas Veterans the recognition they deserve.\"\n\n\u201cAs the son of a WWII B-17 bombardier, Veterans Day holds a special place in my heart. I\u2019m honored to represent thousands of men and women across Texas\u2019 10th Congressional district who \u2014 just like my father \u2014 risked everything for the sake of our nation and our world,\" said Rep. Fallon. \"These individuals truly embody what it means to be an American. With today\u2019s resolution, I join with my Texan colleagues in saying \u2018thank you\u2019 and reaffirming our commitment to ensuring these heroes are taken care of after their service.\u201d\n\nThe full resolution can be viewed here, with text appearing below:\n\nRESOLUTION\n\nHonoring the heroic military service, sacrifices, and contributions of veterans from the great State of Texas.\n\nWhereas the United States of America owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who have served in its Armed Forces, safeguarding liberties and upholding the democratic principles upon which the United States was founded;\n\nWhereas the country observes November 11 of each year as \u2018\u2018Veterans Day\u2019\u2019, a Federal holiday honoring the men and women who served and sacrificed for the United States of America;\n\nWhereas Texas boasts a proud tradition of producing remarkable veterans who make extraordinary contributions to society;\n\nWhereas Texas is home to more than 1,600,000 veterans;\n\nWhereas veterans comprise 15 percent of the population in the State of Texas;\n\nWhereas women comprise more than 11 percent of the total Texas veteran population;\n\nWhereas people of color comprise roughly one-third of the veterans in Texas;\n\nWhereas Texas has 11 veterans currently serving in the 118th Congress as Representatives for the Lonestar State;\n\nWhereas Texans have served with distinction in all military conflicts involving the United States of America, including World War I, World War II, the Korean war, the Vietnam war, Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom;\n\nWhereas more than 22,000 Texan lives were lost while serving in World War II;\n\nWhereas more than 1,000 Texan lives were lost while serving in the Korean War;\n\nWhereas more than 2,000 Texan lives were lost while serving in the Vietnam war;\n\nWhereas more than 100 Texan lives were lost while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom;\n\nWhereas more than 400 Texan lives were lost while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom;\n\nWhereas veterans across the country continue to face challenges in accessing essential resources supporting their successful transition to civilian life;\n\nWhereas Texas is home to countless medical facilities of the Department of Veterans Affairs, including Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, the Kerrville VA Hospital, Doris Miller Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the Dallas VA Medical Center;\n\nWhereas nearly half of patients served by the Veterans Health Administration have been diagnosed with a mental illness or substance use condition;\n\nWhereas post-traumatic stress disorder has accounted for the majority of disabilities women veterans suffer from as a result of their military service;\n\nWhereas veteran mental health struggles have led to staggering statistics in veteran suicide rates, where roughly 17 veteran lives are lost per day as a result of suicide;\n\nWhereas, in 1994, Congress established the Center for Minority Veterans and the Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans under the Veterans\u2019 Benefits Improvements Act of 1994 (Public Law 103\u2013446) to advise to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on administering Department of Veterans Affairs benefits for minority veterans by reviewing reports and studies on compensation, health care, rehabilitation, outreach, and other benefits and services administered by the Department, and ensure all veterans receive equal service regardless of race, origin, religion, or gender;\n\nWhereas the Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that more than 31,000 veterans are homeless, with nearly half experiencing unsheltered homelessness;\n\nWhereas the Department of Veterans Affairs has developed several housing assistance initiatives, including integrating increasing voucher use and accelerate housing placements, increasing veterans\u2019 access to legal services through legal services grants and community partnerships, as well as assisting with advancing veteran employment within the labor force to address the complex problems surrounding homeless veterans;\n\nWhereas Texas leads the Nation in both overall veteran- owned and women-veteran-owned businesses; and\n\nWhereas, despite gains with veteran-owned businesses, roughly two-thirds of veterans struggle with the transition from military service to civilian life, and note that \u2018\u2018finding a job\u2019\u2019 is one of the greatest challenges in doing so given the difficulty with transferring their military skills to a civilian work environment: Now, therefore, be it\n\nResolved, That the House of Representatives\u2014 (1) honors the service, sacrifice, and contributions Texas veterans and their families have made to the cause of peace and freedom around the world;\n\n(2) commits to working with, where proper, the Department of Veterans Affairs and appropriate executive agencies to ensure that veterans are provided timely care and are given the benefits and compensation they are entitled to as a result of their service;\n\n(3) reaffirms the commitment of Congress to assisting veterans with their transition to civilian life upon concluding their service in the Armed Forces;\n\nand (4) recognizes that Congress must continue to invest in vital programs and resources to support the brave men and women veterans who have safe guarded the Nation\u2019s liberties and upheld democratic principles at home and abroad.\n\n###\n\nCongresswoman Jasmine Crockett represents portions of Dallas and Tarrant Counties, with the cities of Dallas, Grand Prairie, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Duncanville, Glenn Heights, Hutchins, Wilmer, Arlington, Ovilla, and Seagoville.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T01:01:09Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://crockett.house.gov/media/press-releases/crockett-fallon-lead-bipartisan-resolution-honoring-texas-veterans"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7584230042994022, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
