Jackie Speier (D-CA) urged the U.S. Office of Government Ethics to investigate credible claims of inappropriate sexual harassment committed by President Donald Trump.\nAt least 19 women have come forward to accuse President Trump of harassment, unwanted touching, and other sexual misconduct.\u00a0However, federal authorities and Congress have yet to investigate and conduct the proper oversight.\n\u201cCredible claims of inappropriate conduct against the holder of the highest office in the nation have gone uninvestigated. Following the release of a video tape in October 2016\u00a0in which then-candidate Donald Trump admits \u2013 and brags about \u2013 making unwanted and inappropriate sexual advances toward women, numerous individuals came forward to share their own personal stories of their encounters,\u201d wrote Crowley and Speier. \u201cWe believe public officials must set the gold standard for professional behavior, particularly those who hold the high offices of representative, senator, and \u2013 especially \u2013 president of the United States.\u201d\nCrowley and Speier both signed onto a letter from the\u00a0Democratic Women's Working\u00a0Group asking House Oversight and Government Reform\u00a0Committee\u00a0Chairman Trey Gowdy to investigate the credible allegations against the president.\u00a0Congressman Gowdy and the panel\u2019s Republicans\u00a0have\u00a0so far been unwilling to take up a probe into the president\u2019s behavior.\u00a0\nThe U.S. Office of Government Ethics, an independent government agency with oversight of the executive branch, is charged with establishing standard of conduct for the executive branch and issuing rules and regulations regarding potential criminal conflicts.\u00a0Given this mandate, and the office\u2019s jurisdictional authority, it is imperative that the Office of Government Ethics do its job and ensure that these women are finally taken seriously and heard.\nRead the full text\u00a0here.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://crowley.house.gov/press-release/chairman-crowley-rep-speier-call-investigation-sexual-misconduct-harassment-president"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.5138850323855877, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
