Barney Post Office Building.\u201d\u00a0\r\nWHEN:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Saturday, October 22, 2016, 11:00 a.m.\r\nWHERE:\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Riverdale Town Centre, 7210 Church Street, Riverdale, GA 30274 \r\nWHY:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On February 11, 2016, Major Barney, was shot and killed while giving chase to a suspect during a raid on an illegal drug operation.\u00a0 Major Barney was a 25-year veteran of the Riverdale Police Department.\u00a0 During his career in Riverdale, Major Barney was a school resource officer at Riverdale High School, a sergeant and a captain.\u00a0 In 2004, Barney became the first African-American to serve as Chief of Police when appointed Interim Chief.\r\n\u201cI am honored to pay tribute to Major Gregory E. Barney and his legacy with the renaming of the Riverdale Post Office in his honor,\u201d said Congressman Scott. \u201cMajor Barney\u2019s commitment to the Riverdale community and beyond makes this post office renaming a worthy salute. And it gives me great pleasure to invite all area residents to join me and the Barney family to celebrate Major Barney\u2019s exceptional record of service.\u201d\r\nCongressman Scott authored H.R. 4747, legislation designating the Riverdale Post Office in Major Gregory Barney\u2019s honor.
