The designation for the Pacific NW Hydrogen Hub, a collective of private sector, government, academic, research, and philanthropic communities across Washington, Oregon, and Montana, aims to accelerate clean hydrogen technology, production, and deployment.

This program, funded by the bipartisan infrastructure law, includes up to $7 billion spread across up to 10 regional clean hydrogen hubs across America selected by the U.S. Department of Energy. They are designed to help communities across the country benefit from clean energy investments, create good-paying jobs, and improve America’s energy security.

Clean hydrogen is a key player in our efforts to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By 2050, the clean hydrogen economy will generate approximately $140 billion in revenue and create 700,000 jobs. The Pacific Northwest is poised to lead this industry.

“Washington has long been a trailblazer in clean energy technology, and today’s announcement will help solidify our position as a hydrogen powerhouse,” said DelBene. “This achievement will not only drive economic growth across the region but also contribute to reducing our carbon footprint. The congressional delegation’s strong support for this designation signifies the broad appeal of these types of investments and jobs across our region.”

In March 2023, DelBene and members of the Washington and Oregon congressional delegations sent a letter of support for Pacific NW Hydrogen Hub’s application to DOE’s Hydrogen Hub.
