The federal funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).\n\n\u201cOur cops keep our communities safe, and we need to make sure they have the necessary resources to do their important work,\u201d said Congressman Deluzio. \u201cI\u2019m happy to announce more than $13,000 in federal funding for the Wilkinsburg Police Department today.\u201d\n\n\u201cWe are incredibly thrilled to have been selected as a recipient of this grant,\u201d said Wilkinsburg Police Chief Christopher Duncan. \u201cOn behalf of the Wilkinsburg Police Department, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Congressman Deluzio.\u201d\n\nThis funding was awarded through the DOJ\u2019s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program for FY 2025. The BJA provides a variety of funding opportunities to state, local, and tribal jurisdictions, aiming to reduce and prevent crime and to reform the U.S. criminal justice system. Further grantee eligibility information is available here.\n\nThe Trump Administration\u2019s efforts to freeze funding and pause federal grants has created significant uncertainty for grantees, varying by agency and program. As of now, courts have paused many of these freezes. However, Congressman Deluzio\u2019s office will continue to monitor these developments and fight to make sure this congressionally-authorized funding keeps going to projects that make life better for Western Pennsylvanians.
