{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://dent.house.gov/index.cfm?p=PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=2058611C-4A6E-4161-8E2A-317F29581F40", "Dent Votes for Key Military Funding Bill", "2016-12-02", "2016", "2016-12", "Republican", "House", "PA", "Charlie Dent", "D000604", "dent.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON, D.C. - This morning, the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).\u00a0 The NDAA authorizes annual funding levels and establishes new Department of Defense (DOD) policies and guidance.\u00a0 Congressman Charlie Dent (PA-15) expressed his support for the bill\u2019s passage with the following remarks:\r\n\u201cThe NDAA is a critical bill that provides for our troops and their families by authorizing the funding and resources that they rely on to carry out their missions safely and successfully.\u00a0 I applaud the bipartisan spirit of this legislation that will solidify our military readiness, make the Department of Defense more efficient, reassure our allies, and improve the health and livelihoods of our service members.\u201d\u00a0\r\n\u201cThis bill will also provide greater security for those troops in our community who train at Fort Indiantown Gap by authorizing the construction of a $20 million security perimeter at the base that was funded earlier this year as a result of my work as Chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee.\u201d\r\nKey provisions in the FY 2017 NDAA include:\u00a0\r\n \r\na funding boost of $9 billion over and above the Obama\u2019s Administration\u2019s request ($619 billion total);\r\na significant pay increase of 2.1% for our troops \u2013 the largest in six years;\r\nbarriers that prohibit transferring Guantanamo Bay detainees to American soil;\r\nan end to the force drawdown and an increase in overall force strength;\r\nadditional health choices for servicemembers through TRICARE;\r\nreforms to address and combat instances of sexual assault;\r\nkey provisions to revamp the DOD acquisition process to assure quality and avert cost overruns\u00a0\r\n \r\n\u201cOur national security and the NDAA have maintained a longstanding tradition of bipartisan support, and I am proud to see that continue this year through the passage of this bill.\u00a0 The needs of our troops and their loved ones should always stand above partisan politics, and this legislation will go a long way to ensure that we remain vigilant and prepared to counter any threat or adversary,\u201d Representative Dent concluded.\r\nThe bill passed by a vote of 375 to 34.\r\n###\r\nCONTACT: Shawn Millan (610) 770-3490", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://dent.house.gov/index.cfm?p=PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=2058611C-4A6E-4161-8E2A-317F29581F40"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.681226771324873, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
