Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today voted to authorize critical defense spending as the House passed S. 2943, the Conference Report to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The NDAA provides for our national defense by authorizing a 2.1 percent pay raise for our military troops, denying proposed troop reductions and increasing Marine and Air Force personnel, authorizing funding for critical weapons systems, and providing for necessary training to maintain the United States military as the premiere fighting force in the world.

“Providing our troops with the tools and training they need to defend our shores is essential, especially during turbulent times,” DeSantis said. “Active-duty troops and their families have been asked to sacrifice greatly as our nation has fought against terrorism, and this pay raise is well-deserved. In addition, I am proud that the NDAA will authorize two amendments that I offered to combat sexual assault and protect national security.”

S. 2943 included two provisions originally offered by DeSantis:

Justice for Victims of Military Sexual Assault

This amendment will help commanders in the Army and Air Force better ensure good order and discipline within the ranks – including better prosecution of sexual assault cases – by adopting limited, career litigation tracks that permit military judge advocates to fill Uniform Code of Military Justice-related billets for the bulk of their careers. This amendment had previously been introduced as the Justice for Victims of Military Sexual Assault Act by DeSantis and Rep. Ryan Zinke (MT).

Curbing the Cuban Military

Prohibits funds for any bilateral military-to-military contact, cooperation, or related security conferences between the Governments of the United States and Cuba until the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State, in consultation with the Director of National Intelligence, certify to the appropriate congressional committees and Congress that the anti-American posture of the Castro regime has undergone a material change.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://desantis.house.gov/press-releases?ID=1642B8E4-4105-40EA-9AB8-521459510C00
