The letter, which was signed by 53 members of the House, asks the following:\n\n\u00b7 Why did administration officials deny repeated requests for stronger security measures from U.S. personnel on the ground in Libya, especially in light of the escalating violence leading up to the September 11 attack?\n\n\u00b7 Why did the administration withdraw elite Special Forces units from the Benghazi compound and seek to replace them with poorly paid local Libyan contractors, even after the compound had been bombed twice?\n\n\u00b7 Why did the administration pursue what U.S. personnel on the ground described as a \u201ccookie cutter\u201d approach to security in Libya and impose an \u201cartificial time table\u201d towards \u201cnormalization\u201d that ignored the dangerous facts on the ground?\n\n\u201cThe Obama administration\u2019s justification for the inadequate level of security leading up to the terrorist attack on our consulate has been extremely unclear,\u201d said Representative DesJarlais. \u201c I think that we can all agree that the American people deserve reassurance that the government did everything in its power to protect our people working in Libya.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T21:11:46Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://desjarlais.house.gov/media-center?ID=760E4F24-BAFB-43B8-B2EE-4E3EB0BDD9FD"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4393716119229794, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
