However, it's not too late to register! We will have an announcement later this week regarding additional keynote speakers and, I can assure you, it is an event not to be missed. Click on the image to register!\u00a0\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u00a0  \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u00a0\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2)\u00a0Largest pay raise for our troops in six years:\u00a0The House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) last week which, among other things, gives our troops the largest pay raise in six years! As dictated by the Constitution, a top priority of Congress is to provide for our nation's defense; the NDAA is an important part of taking care of our warfighters and ensuring that they have the resources they need to complete their mission and provide for their families.\u00a0\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t3)\u00a0The VA MUST do more:\u00a0\u00a0Unfortunately, this good news for our troops was overshadowed by another disturbing scandal at the Tomah VA. It was revealed last week that a dentist who practices at the medical facility used improperly sterilized equipment to treat nearly 600 patients. The Acting Director of the Tomah VA insists that the risk of infection is low, but I urged her to allow the patients to seek all blood tests and any necessary follow-up medical treatment at a medical provider of their choosing. I also requested further details on any plan to prevent Veterans from being subjected to future health risks. Click on the image below to read my full statement and letter to the Director:\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t4)\u00a0#FollowTheRules Act:\u00a0My bill to extend whistleblower protections for Federal employees who refuse to violate rules and regulations passed the U.S. House of Representatives with overwhelming bipartisan support last week. This bill comes on the heels of a landmark Federal court decision that found that the\u00a0Whistleblower Protection Act\u00a0safeguards Federal workers against employment retaliation for refusing orders to violate Federal law, but those same safeguards do not apply to employees who refuse to violate rules and regulations, despite the fact that rules and regulations are supposed to be derived of law.
