This study will give us vital information on how to better protect U.S. shippers and manufacturers from the CCP\u2019s unfair business practices.\u201d\n\nJohnson\u2019s provision is included in Sec. 3521 of the Subcommittee on Seapower and Projection Forces bill. This provision was originally included in Johnson\u2019s Ocean Shipping Reform Implementation Act, which passed the House in March 2024 and awaits action in the Senate.\n\nThis is a part of his larger effort to protect U.S. ports, shippers, and manufacturers from the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s (CCP) influence. In February, Rep. Johnson led a coalition of Members urging the Federal Maritime Commission to counter CCP dominance in global shipping exchanges. Last year, Rep. Johnson secured a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to prohibit the use of the CCP state-controlled shipping platform LOGINK at U.S. ports.\n\nBackground:\n\nThe Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) is the more widely known Chinese shipping exchange. A \u201cshipping exchange\u201d is a platform that connects shippers with carriers to make agreements or contracts for transporting cargo.\n\nFounded in 1996, the SSE is operated by the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. The SSE is tasked by the Chinese government with regulating China\u2019s shipping market, maintaining transaction order, and driving the development of China\u2019s shipping market.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T21:01:11Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://dustyjohnson.house.gov/media/press-releases/johnson-anti-ccp-provision-included-annual-defense-bill"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0467779356986284, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
