Callais, I was reminded of just how much is at stake in our country\u2019s democracy. This case marks a pivotal moment in not only Louisiana\u2019s ongoing fight to protect fair representation, but states all across this nation as well. While I am cautiously optimistic following this morning\u2019s hearing, we must remain vigilant and committed to defending the principles enshrined in Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.\n\nSection 2 was enacted to ensure that every citizen, regardless of race, has an equal opportunity to participate in the political process and elect candidates of their choice. That protection remains just as essential today as it was in 1965.\n\nEvery Louisiana community deserves representation that reflects their voices, their values, and their rightful place in our democracy.
