Alabama\u2019s house delegation all\n\nThe resolution failed to pass the U.S. House of Representatives on a 212-219 vote with four Democrats defecting to vote against the measure.\n\nAll of Alabama\u2018s House Republican members voted against the resolution including Rep. Robert Aderholt, Rep. Barry Moore, Rep. Gary Palmer, Rep. Dale Strong and Rep. Mike Rogers.\n\nThe state\u2019s two Democratic lawmakers, Rep. Terri Sewell and Rep. Shomari Figures, both voted in favor of the measure.\n\n\u201cPresident Trump started a war with Iran without congressional approval and without a plan to address the fallout,\u201d Figures said in a statement. \u201cAmerican soldiers have already tragically died. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that the President does not force us further into this conflict, with no clear objective or timeline, resulting in the loss of more American troops.\u201d\n\nThe Senate voted down a war powers resolution on Wednesday primarily along party lines also.\n\nThe outcome allows Trump to continue pursuing military operations against Iran after the U.S. and Israel launched a joint military operation against the country over the weekend.\n\nIran\u2019s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high ranking government officials were killed in the strikes deemed as acts of war.\n\nAfter initially claiming the operations against Iran to oust the current regime would take four weeks, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Wednesday it may take up to eight weeks.\n\nAs a result of the conflict many people have already died including hundreds of children in Iran and several U.S. military members.", 1, "2026-05-22T06:27:39Z", "2026-05-22T06:29:18Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://figures.house.gov/media/in-the-news/war-powers-resolution-voted-down-house-how-alabama-officials-voted"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.3047459069639444, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
