Figures (AL-02) sent a letter to House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn \u201cGT\" Thompson requesting a hearing to examine President Trump\u2019s recent proclamation authorizing the import of 300,000 metric tons of foreign beef that can be sold below market-rate, a move that provides minimal to no relief to consumers while harming the long-term viability of local cattle farmers.\n\n\u201cThe Administration has stated that the action is intended to address elevated beef prices and increase the supply of ground beef for American consumers,\u201d Figures wrote. \u201cHowever, the decision has raised significant concerns among cattle producers, agricultural organizations, and consumers about what, if any, economic relief this policy will provide.
