The moratorium ties the hands of landlords across the country who are already reeling from the past 18 months, depriving them of any legal recourse to enforce rent obligations. Not only does this increase the likelihood of future shortages in affordable housing, but it also stokes the existing inflation in rental prices as landlords cope with the losses in revenue. Congress has repeatedly acted to provide relief to the American people, including allocating $46 billion in rental assistance.
