{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://fitzpatrick.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/fitzpatrick-helps-introduce-higher-ed-transparency-bill", "Fitzpatrick Helps Introduce Higher Ed Transparency Bill", "2017-12-01", "2017", "2017-12", "Republican", "House", "PA", "Brian Fitzpatrick", "F000466", "fitzpatrick.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Duncan Hunter (R-CA),\u00a0Andr\u00e9 Carson (D-IN), and Scott Peters (D-CA) have introduced the\u00a0Student Right to Know Before You Go Act of 2017, a bipartisan bill providing greater transparency in the cost of higher education.\u00a0 U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Mark Warner (D-VA) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate at the same time.\nThe\u00a0Student Right to Know Before You Go Act of 2017\u00a0establishes new metrics to be published by the Department of Education to focus on data that provides future students and their families with information post-graduation average annual earnings, rate/amount of federal loan debt, rates of remedial enrollment, credit accumulation, and graduation rates among other data sets.\u00a0 Specifically, the legislation will:\n Empower students and families with the tools needed for a more complete picture of the value of their education;\n\tMake accurate, easy to understand data available online for prospective students and their families;\n\tAuthorize the release of information that currently exists, but not currently accessible;\n\tMatch student records with employment and earnings data;\n\tEnsure results will be highly accurate and informative.\n A critical provision of the legislation is the requirement for the use of secure multi-party computation (MPC), an advanced encryption technique, to generate statistical data based on student information from colleges and universities as well as loan and income information from government agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Education. \u00a0The process ensures the protection of the underlying data, so no entity is forced to \u201cgive up\u201d sensitive information in a form that is accessible to others.\nA one-page summary and a chart of the bill\u2019s key provisions can be found by\u00a0clicking here, alongside a\u00a0section-by-section outline.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://fitzpatrick.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/fitzpatrick-helps-introduce-higher-ed-transparency-bill"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.547468127682805, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
