The announcement comes at the conclusion of a rigorous interview and selection process that included the input of a committee of diverse Nebraskans, including military leaders and community members.\n\n\u201cNebraskans are stepping up to serve as the next generation of leaders in our country\u2019s Armed Forces. It\u2019s an honor to nominate each of these outstanding young Nebraskans to our Military Service Academies,\u201d said Congressman Flood. \u201cI also want to extend a big thanks to the committee who assisted with the process that resulted in the nomination of these outstanding candidates.\u201d\n\nThe committee members include Roma Amundson of Lincoln, Lt. Col. Darin Fox (USMC) of Bellevue, Jessica Kolterman of Seward, Dave Merritt of Norfolk, and Col. Fred Phelan of Lincoln (USAF). The committee worked diligently to examine each applicant\u2019s understanding of the nature of the Military Service Academies, the role of Officers in the Armed Forces, the applicant\u2019s desire to serve, their academic records, and their ability to communicate effectively in a high stakes environment.\n\nWith the input of the committee, Congressman Mike Flood nominated applicants that met the rigorous academic and physical requirements of the Military Service Academies. There are five U.S. Military Service Academies: U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The office received no applications for nomination to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.\n\nCongressman Mike Flood\u2019s nominations are in alphabetical order by last name.\n\n1.
