Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) program and reins in its excessive funding moving forward.\n\n\u201cFor nearly ten years, the D.C. local government has quietly stockpiled tens of millions of taxpayer dollars from an overfunded program,\u201d said Congressman Flood. \u201cThe DCTAG program has enough prior federal funding to be entirely self-sustaining for at least two years without needing another dime of taxpayer money. House Republicans are fighting to eliminate bloated and wasteful federal spending, and this bill is a straightforward step toward getting our federal checkbook in order.\u201d\n\n\"Congress allocates millions of dollars annually to the DCTAG program, leading to significant overfunding. Throughout my time in Congress, I\u2019ve made it a priority to protect American taxpayer dollars from waste, fraud, and abuse. This bill ensures that excess funds are not carried over by the D.C. government to be used in the following year. We must be responsible stewards of taxpayer money and ensure it is spent efficiently and effectively,\u201d said Rep. William Timmons (SC-04).\n\nThe DCTAG program has received $40 million annually from Congress since 2015. However, it consistently falls short of awarding this full amount each year, leaving at least $60 million in unspent funds accumulated over time.\n\nThe \u201cNo More D.C. Waste Act\u201d amends current law by preventing the D.C. government from carrying over surplus funds in the future to avoid further wasted taxpayer dollars. Specifically, the bill accomplishes this by eliminating the D.C. government\u2019s ability to roll over funding from the previous year, beginning in FY2026.\n\nThis legislation additionally improves congressional oversight by requiring the D.C. government to report DCTAG\u2019s finances, key statistics, and outcomes to Congress annually.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T22:13:55Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://flood.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-flood-introduces-no-more-dc-waste-act"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7605399005115032, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
