Frelinghuysen Statement on U.S-Cuba Relations", "2014-12-17", "2014", "2014-12", "Republican", "House", "NJ", "Rodney Frelinghuysen", "F000372", "frelinghuysen.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Alan Gross is Home, Killer of NJ Trooper Remains in Cuban Safe Haven\r\n\r\n\t\u201cWe all welcome the release of Alan Gross and his return to his family in the United States,\u201d said Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11). \u201cHowever, we cannot forget that New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster will never return to his family and Cuba is harboring his killer.\u201d\r\n\r\n\tMr. Gross\u2019 release came a week after White House press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement that Gross\u2019s continued detainment was an \u201cimpediment to more constructive relations between the United States and Cuba.\u201d Media reports indicate that the Obama administration plans to start talks with Cuba on normalizing full diplomatic relations and opening an embassy in Havana.\r\n\r\n\t\u201cTo me, the New Jersey law enforcement community and many other Americans, one of the biggest impediments to improved relations between the United States and Cuba is the continued safe haven provided to the fugitive, Joanne Chesimard,\u201d Frelinghuysen said.\u00a0 \u201cI would demand that the White House and the State Department work much harder to bring this murderer \u2018home\u2019 to New Jersey where she can face justice and serve out her sentence.\u201d\r\n\r\n\tChesimard, was convicted of the 1973 execution-style murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster along the New Jersey Turnpike and sentenced to life in prison.\u00a0 She escaped from prison in 1979 and eventually fled to Cuba where she has been provided refuge.\r\n\r\n\t#######", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://frelinghuysen.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=2&itemid=962"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.81586092710495, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
