Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement today regarding her vote against H.R. 5806 \u2013 the Supporting America\u2019s Charities Act:\r\n\r\n\t\u201cI welcome and encourage the giving spirit that time and again prompts millions of individuals and corporations to support American charities, faith-based and other non-profit institutions and philanthropic organizations. \u00a0Their contributions enhance the economic and environmental well-being of our communities by supporting many of our nation\u2019s most vulnerable citizens,\u201d said Congresswoman Fudge.\r\n\r\n\t\u201cHowever, I could not support H.R. 5806. \u00a0In advancing this bill, the House Majority did not figure out how to pay for the loss of revenue that will occur by extending these tax credits for 3 charitable contributions.\u00a0 The included tax provisions would be permanent and increase the deficit by $11.1 billion over 10 years. \u00a0This is in conflict with House Republicans\u2019 stated goal of reducing the nation\u2019s debt.\u00a0 After all, they passed a budget resolution that required tax credits to be paid for in order to be made permanent.\u00a0\r\n\r\n\t\u201cMeanwhile, the House Majority continues in its refusal to extend other needed tax relief and programs that benefit the middle class, families, and other Americans who struggle to put food on the table and make ends meet. \u00a0It is not right for Congress to pick winners and losers among the American people.\u00a0 If \u201ccharity begins at home,\u201d let it begin in the People\u2019s House, with a commitment to a fair and even-handed tax policy.\u201d\r\n\r\n\t##", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://fudge.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=25&itemid=1536"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5066659543663263, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
