The bill also provides critical relief for small American manufacturers, safeguarding their ability to produce high-quality medications domestically.\n\n\u201cThis legislation puts patients first by ensuring the affordability and accessibility of widely used medications,\u201d said Rep. Garbarino. \u201cIt also reinforces our support for small businesses and American manufacturing, ensuring that U.S. companies remain competitive and resilient in the global market and ensuring that small, family-owned companies like Long Island's Jerome Stevens Pharmaceuticals can continue their vital work.\u201d\n\nSpecifically, this legislation would amend Title XVIII of the Social Security Act to exempt from the Medicare Part D Manufacturer Discount Program any orally administered medications, like Levothyroxine Sodium, that:\n\nWas approved under an NDA pursuant to the FDA\u2019s 1997 Federal Register Notice; and\n\nHas been granted a \u201cnarrow exception\u201d by CMS under the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program (MDRP).\n\n\u201cThis bipartisan legislation provides a common sense fix to help a Long Island business provide 19 million American patients with an essential drug they need,\u201d said Rep. Suozzi. \u201cHyper technical language will hurt this company and these patients and they need a fair exception under Medicare. Let\u2019s get it done.\u201d\n\n\"As a lifelong pharmacist, I am dedicated to ensuring that Americans always have affordable access to the life-saving medications that they need,\u201d said Rep.
