{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://gonzales.house.gov/2021/12/congressman-tony-gonzales-supports-passage-fy22-ndaa", "Congressman Tony Gonzales Supports Passage of FY22 NDAA", "2021-12-08", "2021", "2021-12", "Republican", "House", "TX", "Tony Gonzales", "G000594", "gonzales.house.gov", "gonzales", "https://gonzales.house.gov/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) on Wednesday released the following statement after the House passage of the FY2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):\n\n\u201cNow more than ever, our national security is of the utmost importance, as we see a rise in cyber-attacks, fallout from the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and threats from the Taliban, China, Russia, and Iran,\u201d said Congressman Gonzales. \u201cThis year\u2019s NDAA provides provisions to strengthen our national defense, supplies our military with the means to defend our country and supports our servicemembers and their families through improved resources.\u201d\n\nThe NDAA contains important measures to combat the border crisis:\n\nContinues funding for the deployment of National Guard to the border.\n\nReauthorizes authority for DoD to support U.S. law enforcement counter-narcotic and counter-transnational crime efforts.\n\nRequires an assessment of the impact on military readiness of forcing DoD to transport illegal immigrants.\n\nIt also includes the following provisions to strengthen our national defense and benefit our men and women in uniform:\n\nBoosts topline defense spending by $25 billion, an increase of 5 percent from FY21.\n\nAuthorizes a 2.7 percent pay increase for servicemembers.\n\nProvides nearly $1.5 billion to improve servicemember family housing.\n\nPuts the Navy back on track to building a 355 ship Navy.\n\nIncludes provisions to hold the Biden Administration accountable for its disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.\n\nProhibits the Biden Administration from closing, transferring detainees from, or building alternative U.S.-based facilities to Guantanamo Bay.\n\nFocuses investments on new and emerging weapon systems capable of penetrating denied operating environments such as China.\n\nRequires DoD to provide annual updates to Congress on China\u2019s military advancements.\n\nIncreases funding for technology capable of penetrating and surviving in denied operating environments.\n\nAuthorizes over $7 billion for the Pacific Deterrence Initiative and over $500 million in INDOPACOM Combatant Commander priorities.\n\nCreates framework for tracking improvements in Taiwan\u2019s capabilities to counter the Chinese and sets deeper integration with Taiwan\u2019s military.\n\nEstablishes that it is the policy of the U.S. to maintain ability to resist Chinese efforts to seize control of Taiwan.\n\nIncludes $300 million in support to Ukraine.\n\nProhibits DoD from dishonorably discharging servicemembers that refuse the COVD-19 vaccine.\n\nNo longer includes the \u201cRed Flag\u201d provision, which would allow judges to issue ex parte protective orders that prohibit firearm possession.\n\nPreserves servicemembers\u2019 free speech rights by protecting them from being punished for political statements on social media accounts.", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T20:37:48Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://gonzales.house.gov/2021/12/congressman-tony-gonzales-supports-passage-fy22-ndaa"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8995700627565384, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
