The funding will be used to upgrade 61 patrol vehicles with bullet-resistant windshields, providing an added layer of protection for the 115 uniformed deputies who serve Cameron County. The Congressman also announced $3,880,000 in federal funding delivered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security\u2019s (DHS) Operation Stonegarden to improve border security and support additional law enforcement personnel, overtime pay, new equipment, and other applicable activities.\n\n\u201cLaw enforcement officers put their lives on the line each day to protect our communities, and they deserve the reliable equipment needed to stay safe and return home to their families,\u201d said Congressman Gonzalez. \u201cThanks to the funding I secured and passed into law, we are strengthening community safety and empowering Cameron County to enhance its recruitment and retention of skilled deputies.
