Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today announced the 2020 winners of the Congressional App Challenge from Kentucky's Second District.\r\nStudents in congressional districts across the country compete in the annual Congressional App Challenge. Congressman Guthrie encourages middle school and high school students in the Second District to participate in the app challenge to provide new coding and computer science experience. \r\nGracelyn Deweese, Cathern Goodman, Collin Graves, and Melena Hughes from Barren County High School won the 2020 Congressional App Challenge with their app, ShowLocal.\r\nCongratulations to Barren County High School students Gracelyn, Cathern, Collin, and Melena for being this year's Second District Congressional App Challenge winners, said Guthrie. Recognizing the challenges small businesses face, the students teamed up to create an app called ShowLocal to help showcase local businesses in rural communities. I applaud them for working on solutions to boost local economies dealing with hardships during these difficult times. I'm excited to see ShowLocal displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Each year I'm impressed with the STEM skills and creativity of the students from the Second District, and this year's competition submissions were no exception, even with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Without the dedication of teachers and our volunteer judges, this competition would not be possible. To all of the students from this year's challenge, thank you for participating and keep up the good work harnessing your coding skills.\r\nThe winners of the Congressional App Challenge are determined by a panel of computer science experts in the Second District. Winning teams from across the country will have their app showcased in the U.S. Capitol and also have the opportunity to participate in a virtual #HouseOfCode event next spring.
