While the law governing concealed carry permits in Hawaii is strict, it provides a process by which private citizens can request a permit to carry a concealed firearm. \u00a0H.R. 38, the \"Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act\", would permit any individual with a state-issued concealed carry permit to carry a firearm in Hawaii without regard to Hawaii\u2019s laws.\u00a0 In other words, it would allow individuals to choose states with fewer concealed carry restrictions than Hawaii to override Hawaii\u2019s law.\u00a0 For that reason, I opposed H.R. 38 today in a vote on the House floor. \u00a0Hawaii is fortunate to have a very low rate of violent crime and our concealed carry law is a big part of that.
