By establishing overly strict and needlessly burdensome qualification requirements and while erecting a Byzantine bureaucratic maze for those seeking help, Georgia prevented tens of thousands of its residents from receiving relief under President Obama\u2019s Hardest Hit Fund. As a result many lost their homes to foreclosure. Unfortunately, this is another example of Georgia failing to work with the Obama administration to help its own citizens for purely political reasons. Shame!\u201d\n\u00a0\nA Closer Look\n\u00a0\n\uf06e Although Congressman Johnson held more than a half dozen town halls with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs to assist homeowners facing foreclosure, more than 66 percent of Fourth Congressional District homeowners who applied for assistance were turned away;\n\uf06e Only 1,633 homeowners in GA-04 received assistance, the second highest of the 14 congressional districts in the state;\n\uf06e 71 percent of all veterans in the state who applied were denied;\n\uf06e Eight of every 10 people Georgia turned away earned less than $30,000 a year \u2013 and most earned less than $20,000.\u00a0\n\u00a0\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://hankjohnson.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-johnson-s-statement-sigtarp-audit-showing-gross-mismanagement"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9162509813904762, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
