{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://herrerabeutler.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=389538", "Jaime Herrera Beutler Statement Regarding New Rail Safety Regulations", "2014-07-23", "2014", "2014-07", "Republican", "House", "WA", "Jaime Herrera Beutler", "H001056", "herrerabeutler.house.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Jaime Herrera Beutler today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s new rail safety rule. \r\n          share:\r\n          f \r\n          t \r\n        \r\n      \r\n      Jaime Herrera Beutler today issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s new rail safety rule. \r\n\u201cThe U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s proposed rule is an encouraging move toward assuring the safe transport of energy products both here in Southwest Washington and around the country.\u00a0 My firm belief has always been that while our economy can benefit from the boom in domestic sources of energy, we have to make sure the safety of railroad workers and communities along train routes keeps up.\u00a0   \r\n\u201cThe Administration\u2019s demand for upgraded railcars and slower speeds is a necessary next step.\u00a0 This is particularly important in environmentally sensitive areas like the Columbia River Gorge and highly populated area like Vancouver where the transport of energy products is already happening.\u00a0 Improving emergency readiness and response efforts are welcomed reforms, especially in smaller Washington towns through which dozens of trains travel every day.\r\n\u201cAs a member of the House Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, I helped write a bill that was approved by the House on May 27, 2014 calling on USDOT to finalize a rule for improved safety standards for oil cars.\u00a0 The bill also included additional funding for increased rail safety measures and improved rail crossings in towns.\u00a0 I am pleased to see that the Administration has responded positively toward the House\u2019s actions, and I look forward to building on that progress when the Senate passes its own transportation appropriations bill.\r\n\u201cI look forward to hearing from those Southwest Washington communities impacted by rail transport, and working with the Administration in the coming months to improve upon this proposal.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0\r\nFlashback (VIDEO): Jaime Herrera Beutler presses U.S. DOT Secretary Foxx to issue updated safety rules in March.\u00a0 Watch video here.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://herrerabeutler.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=389538"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.725051948800683, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
