Jaime Herrera Beutler pressed for answers about current and future of the exchange. \r\n\u00a0\r\nHEARING VIDEO OF JAIME HERRERA BEUTLER \r\n\u00a0\r\nDr. Stark is a retired physician and an accomplished health care policy analyst from Washington state provided following insights.\u00a0 \r\n\u201cWe have 3 major carriers in the individual market in the state of Washington and so far none of those have opted to participate in the SHOP and we don\u2019t see them participating in 2015 and it\u2019s doubtful in 2016, 2017.\u201d \r\n\u201cAssociation Health Plans are very popular in the State of WA \u2026 A lot of business owners are very fearful that those are going away and they will be left with either putting their employees in the private market or in the SHOP.\u201d\r\n\u201cEmployers are going to be looking at doing away with coverage or putting employees in the individual exchange.\u201d \r\nDemocrat Small Business Committee Ranking Member Hahn stated, \u201cIt was disturbing, Dr. Stark, to hear that a lot insurance companies are not participating in the SHOP. And that is not good for consumers.
