U.S. Rep. Kendra Horn (OK-05) voted for H.R. 1 on Friday, keeping her promise to change how Washington works.\n\t\n\tH.R. 1, known as the For the People Act of 2019, is a broad piece of legislation that will make voting easier, ensure elections more secure, shed a light on money in politics and protect citizens from political redistricting.\n\t\n\tThis bill takes power from the few and gives it back to the many, she said. Access to voting and election security are literally the most critical issues our government faces. Every citizen's voice in our democracy deserves to be heard, and every voice among us should be equal.\n\t\n\tThis measure continues the work that began under the1965 Voting Rights Act during the civil rights movement. Our country has a history of disenfranchising communities of color, and legislation such as H.R. 1 is pivotal in fighting that.\n\t\n\tH.R. 1 also sheds a light on the dark money in Washington. It doesn't create spending limits or ban certain groups from donating, funding organizations or buying advertising. It ensures that Americans know who it is spending money to sway policy.\n\t\n\tNo one is saying you can't spend money, Congresswoman Horn said. This bill makes sure we know where that money comes from.\n\t\n\tCurrent law requires every cent that goes into and comes out of a candidate's campaign to be disclosed. However, that is not the case for campaigns that don't involve candidates. Dark money groups raise and spend billions in Washington without facing the same disclosure requirements that elected leaders do.\n\t\n\tMarch 8, 2019  \n\t\tContact: Director of Communications Catherine Sweeney  \n\t\tCatherine.sweeney@mail.house.gov  \n\t\t202-225-2132", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://horn.house.gov/media/press-releases/congresswoman-horn-votes-give-power-back-american-people-and-shine-light-money"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9761760011315346, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
