Congresswoman Kendra Horn voted for a bill to fight intrusive robocalls on Wednesday.\nRobocalls flooding our phones every day are not only annoying and inconvenient, they are intrusive and intended only to scare us out of our hard-earned money, Congresswoman Horn said.\nWhat was once a rare annoyance has become an onslaught. Last year, an estimated 26.3 billion unwanted calls were placed in the U.S., which represents a 46 percent increase in unwanted calls over the previous year. Half of all calls placed to cell phones are robocalls.\nH.R. 3375, the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, amps up the fights against scammers and other robocallers by:  \n\t Amending the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) to ensure that the FCC has the authority and the tools to take strong, quick action when they track down robocallers;  \n\t Allowing consumers to revoke consent they had previously given to receive calls at any time and in any reasonable manner;  \n\t Codifying a reassigned number database to put robocallers on notice when a telephone number they may have previously been authorized to call has been given to a new customer who has not authorized their call;  \n\t Limiting the number of robocalls exempted from the TCPA under the FCC's rules;  \n\t Requiring calls to have verified caller identification information associated with a call before the call can be put through; and  \n\t Extending the statute of limitations from one year to four years for callers violating robocall prohibitions.\nScammers disguised as the IRS call unsuspecting people looking and tell them they owe taxes, all to try to get money out of the victim. Scammers will also disguise themselves as local governments, police department, and loved ones looking for help.\nThese illegal, unwanted calls have changed the way we interact with our phones  and even each other, Congresswoman Kendra Horn said. People have stopped answering the phone just to avoid scammers. It's not only frustrating, it's dangerous. And although the robocall problem is evolving, this bi-partisan bill is a great first step in making sure that when we answer the phone, we know who is on the other end.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://horn.house.gov/media/press-releases/congresswoman-kendra-horn-votes-combat-robocalls"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.8966430108994246, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
