The legislation fulfills the unanimousrequest by the USPS Board of Governorsearlier this year for $25 billiontomaintainpostaloperations and timely service. The legislation also reverses recent changes made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy that have causedmail backlogs and delays. The bill passed with a strong bipartisan vote of 257-150.\r\nOklahomans rely on the U.S.PostalServicetokeep their businesses running,toget prescription medications,tovote, andtostay connected, said Congresswoman KendraHorn(OK-5). Today's legislation would provide the funding thePostalService needstofulfill its core mission. Our bill also stops and reverses made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy that have ledtonationwide mail backlogs. As our nation strugglestocope with COVID-19, I'm fightingtokeep USPS funded, end delays, and ensure on time delivery of critical mail. Our health, our businesses, even our democracy are on the line. We must protect thePostalService.\r\nThis year, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced changes at USPS including the removal of automatic mail sorting machines, the elimination of some local mail collection boxes, cutstoovertime forpostalworkers, reduced post office operating hours, and more. Following public outcry over the changes and resulting mail delays, DeJoy backtracked on some of the changes. Still, the Postmaster General has announced he hasno intention of restoringthe mail sorting machines or collection boxes he had removed.\r\nOn Tuesday, Congresswoman KendraHornhosted a press conference with the National Association of Letter Carriers calling for Congresstopass legislationtosupport thePostalService and stop mail backlogs.\r\nThe Veterans Administration (VA) uses USPStomailninety percentof its prescriptions outtoveterans. Each year the VA sends out120 million prescriptionsusing thePostalService, with deliveries arriving dailytoabout 330,000 veterans across the country.\r\nUSPS is also a lifeline for our small businesses.
