Larson (CT-01) today introduced the Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act, legislation that would help Social Security and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries weather rising costs of President Trump’s America.

The legislation comes after the Social Security Administration announced a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment for 2026, amounting to just $56 per month for 75 million retired seniors and disabled workers. At nearly the same time, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that monthly Part B premiums will rise by nearly 10 percent.

“Nevadans who work hard, pay taxes, and play by the rules are facing hard economic times through no fault of their own,” Rep. Horsford said. “Trump’s tariffs and inflation are driving this downturn, but my constituents and everyday Americans are the ones paying for it. People across the country need relief, and that’s exactly what the bill that Congressman Larson, Senator Warren and I are introducing will do. For fixed income seniors and veterans struggling to make ends meet, an additional $200 a month can be the boost that prevents someone from rationing their medication or going without food.”

“Americans are getting squeezed by high prices everywhere they look, and failed Trump policies are only driving up costs even more,” Rep. Larson said. “Social Security beneficiaries on fixed incomes are suffering the most from this cost-of-living crisis. While this year’s COLA was welcome news for seniors trying to make ends meet, it will not be enough. I am glad to join my colleagues, Congressman Steven Horsford and Senator Elizabeth Warren, to help out our seniors, veterans, and disabled workers, with a little bit more breathing room to pay the bills. Democrats will continue to fight to strengthen Social Security for everyone and lower costs for families.”

The Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act was also introduced in the U.S. Senate on October 30 by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

“Donald Trump’s chaotic tariffs are pushing up costs on just about everything, and Americans need relief,” Senator Warren said. “Our new bill will provide just that by sending American seniors on Social Security an extra $200 a month. Democrats will keep fighting to lower costs for Americans.”

The Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act would provide critical relief to Americans living on a fixed income by:

Providing a $200 per month emergency increase to Social Security checks until July 2026.

Supporting all Title II Social Security beneficiaries, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries, Railroad Retirement beneficiaries, veteran disability compensation, and veteran pension benefit annuitants.

In the House of Representatives, the Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act is cosponsored by Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Work and Family Support Danny Davis (IL-07), and Representatives Terri Sewell (AL-07), Cleo Fields (LA-06), Dina Titus (NV-01), Angie Craig (MN-02), Emily Randall (WA-06), and Dan Goldman (NY-10).

In the U.S. Senate, the Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act is cosponsored by Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Tina Smith (D-MN), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Peter Welch (D-VT).

Rep.
