The initiative, which provides the option to opt out, aims to streamline communication and reduce reliance on fragmented channels such as social media, newsletters, and installation-specific platforms.\n\nThe bill also directs DoD to report to Congress by October 1, 2027, on participation, outcomes, costs, and whether the program should be expanded Department-wide. By consolidating routine updates into a single, efficient push-text system, the initiative is expected to reduce duplicative outreach efforts and improve long-term communication efficiency.\n\n\u201cMilitary families deserve clear, consistent, and reliable communication, especially those stationed overseas,\u201d said Representative Chrissy Houlahan. \u201cOur bill ensures that servicemembers and their families on Okinawa get the information they need directly to their phones, without having to dig through multiple systems or outdated channels. As a former Air Force officer and daughter of a naval officer, I know how much this simple, modern approach to getting timely information can improve quality of life and readiness.\u201d\n\n\"Having served overseas with my own family, I know firsthand that clear and timely communication can make all the difference. Whether it\u2019s childcare availability, TRICARE updates, or family resources, our servicemembers stationed in Okinawa deserve information they can rely on. The Push-Text Initiative will deliver that support directly to their phones, strengthening both family stability and mission readiness,\u201d said Congresswoman Kiggans.\n\n\u201cOur servicemembers and their families are relying on increasingly diverse sources of information, and they deserve to be met where they are at.
