Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and play a vital\u00a0role\u00a0in our local communities,\u00a0employing half of our country's workforce and creating nearly two out of every three net new jobs. Small Business Saturday provides an opportunity to support\u00a0these local economic engines and\u00a0help to continue their success by shopping locally.\u00a0According to the U.S. Small Business Administration,\u00a0Maryland alone has more than 500,000 small businesses.
