For millions of Americans, especially folks in rural communities, it is a trusted source for local news, weather, and critical information during emergencies,\u201d said Rep. Hudson. \u201cI\u2019ve pushed hard to keep AM radio available in our cars, and I\u2019m glad the House has finally passed this bipartisan bill.\u201d\n\nBackground\n\nThe legislation directs the Department of Transportation to require AM radio access as standard equipment in new passenger vehicles. Consumers would not be charged an additional fee to access AM radio.\n\nAM radio continues to play an important role in emergency communications, particularly in rural areas and during hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and other disasters when cellular and internet service can be disrupted. Firefighters, law enforcement officers, sheriffs, emergency medical organizations, and farmers have backed keeping AM radio available in vehicles because of its role in delivering emergency information.\n\nAs Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, Hudson has continued working with local broadcasters and public safety leaders to preserve access to AM radio for drivers across the country.\n\nHudson was one of the earliest cosponsors of the legislation and has pushed for its passage throughout the 119th Congress.", 1, "2026-09-18T09:27:43Z", "2026-09-18T09:29:09Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://hudson.house.gov/press-releases/hudson-backed-bill-to-keep-am-radio-in-new-vehicles-passes-house"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.491183415055275, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
