Issa stated:\n\n\u201cIf your efficiency requests exceed the current technology, then they [appliances] go away.\u201d\n\nIn response to Secretary Granholm\u2019s assertation that DOE\u2019s proposed rules will increase efficiency and reduce cost to operate these appliances, Rep. Issa responded,\n\n\u201cIt doesn\u2019t always reduce cost, as you know. Many products actually cost more to operate because of the technical nature of them, so you save money on energy, but you spend money on maintenance and capital cost.\u201d\n\nWatch Rep.
