Kean, Jr.", "K000398", "kean.house.gov", "kean", "https://kean.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "(September 25, 2024) WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7323 \u2013 Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves Tuition Fairness Act of 2024.\n\nIncluded in this package is the Veterans Flight Training Responsibility Act of 2024, a bipartisan bill led by Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) that would expedite the flight training process for veterans by removing the one-year requirement for accessing their GI Bill benefits. Under the current GI Bill, students can access a maximum of $26,000 per academic year for their flight training. Once these funds are exhausted, they must wait until the following academic year to continue their training.\n\nWatch Congressman Kean speak on the House floor in support of the bill HERE.\n\nThis bill was introduced by Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) and is co-led by Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03).\n\n\u201cVeterans should be able to pursue their aviation careers \u2013 or any career \u2013 without excessive financial burdens and unnecessary delays,\u201d said Congressman Kean. \u201cThe current GI bill system needs to be improved and I\u2019m thankful for my House colleagues for passing today\u2019s revised legislation, which included my bill, the Veterans Flight Training Responsibility Act, so veteran students can expedite the flight training process.\u201d\n\n\u201cEvery veteran should be able to use their education benefits however they see fit\u2014and we should be making it easier for them to do so,\u201d said Congressman McGarvey. \u201cOur bill would give veterans the flexibility to use their benefits for flight school without breaking the bank, and I\u2019m thrilled to see it pass through the House of Representatives.\u201d\n\nMore specifically, this bill would:\n\nCap the flight training fees and tuition to approximately $115,000 for public flight training institutions.\n\nAllow student veterans to use their GI Bill throughout the whole year, instead of taking time off or paying out of pocket.\n\nRead more about the bill HERE.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-07T21:43:57Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://kean.house.gov/media/press-releases/house-passes-keans-bill-expedite-flight-training-veterans"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9861849248409271, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
