Lowe, 68, of 1507 Barney Hill Road in Nelson Township,was killed during a shootout with police at his home early Wednesday morning.\nLowe had been barricaded in the home for several hours surrounded by police after the early afternoon incident.\nPennsylvania property records list Lowe as the owner of the residence.\nThe trooper who was shot was flown from the scene and remains in stable condition at a regional hospital, state police said. Another trooper who sustained a leg injury at the scene was treated and released.\nThe names of the troopers involved have not been released.\nSeveral troopers responded to the Barney Hill Road location Tuesday to conduct a welfare check on a male who resided at that residence.\nThe troopers were acting on information that had been provided to state police that the individual had been out of contact for a couple of weeks, which was unusual.\nArriving troopers announced themselves and tried to ascertain if anyone was home. After they received no response, troopers entered the residence through an open door and announced their presence again in attempts to get a response from anyone in the residence, state police said.\nAt that time, a gunshot was fired at the troopers and they retreated, requestedbackup and secured the scene.\nThe state police Special Emergency Response Team was activated after the individual barricaded himself inside the residence, troopers said.\nSeveral attempts were made to get the man to surrender during the 14-hour standoff, which he refused, according to state police.\nDuring that time, the suspect reportedly fired at police multiple times.\nAround 2 a.m., members of the Special Emergency Response Team returned fire and the suspect was killed, state police said.\nThe investigation into the incident is continuing and state police said more information will be released as the investigation develops.\nState police were assisted at the scene by the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Wellsboro and Elkland police departments, and local fire and ambulance companies.\nU.S. Rep. Fred Keller, whose district includes Tioga County, posted a statement about the incident on his Twitter account.\n\"Our office is monitoring the situation in Tioga County where one of our brave state troopers was wounded in the line of duty,\" Keller wrote.\"This is a stark reminder of the sacrifice our first responders make on our behalf.\"", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://keller.house.gov/media/in-the-news/pennsylvania-state-police-identify-suspect-killed-tioga-county-after-trooper"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.623449381440878, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
