We are thankful that both Troopers wounded in yesterday's incident are on the road to recovery, for the other Troopers who put their lives on the line to bring the standoff to a conclusion, and for the medical professionals who took care of our heroes. Our office continues to monitor the latest developments related to this incident.\nNELSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WENY) --After about 14 hours in a standoff with Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), a gunman has been killed.\nTroopers responded to a home on Barney Hill Road in Nelson Township of Tioga County yesterday to conduct a check on the welfare of a man who resides there. Information had been provided to authorities that he had not been able to be contacted for a couple weeks, which was reportedly unusual.\nUpon arrival, troopers say they announced themselves and attempted to ascertain if anyone was in the residence. A gunshot was fired at the troopers, and one was struck. PSP retreated, requested backup, and secured the scene.\nThe trooper who was struck was Life Flighted from the scene. According to a PSP press release, he remains hospitalized and in stable condition.\nAnother trooper sustained a leg injury at the scene. He was treated and released.\nThe PSP Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) was activated due to the individual barricading himself in the home. Authorities say attempts were made to get him to surrender from his barricaded position, but he refused. The man reportedly fired at PSP members several times during the approximately 14-hour standoff.\nAt about 2 a.m. today, PSP SERT returned fire and the individual was killed.\nThe standoff situation has ended, but the investigation is ongoing.
