The trip included meetings with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as well as roundtable discussionswith leading women's rights groups and briefings with Western military officials. A member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Kinzinger had this to say: \"I was honored to have the chance to sit down with our brave men and women in uniform, with many of them from right here in Illinois,\" said Kinzinger. We've made incredible progress in the region and they deserve all the credit. As the troop drawdown in Afghanistan continues, it is vital that we remember the sacrifices so many have made and ensure future decisions do not endanger our hard-fought successes.Lunch at Camp Marmal, Afghanistan The first leg of Rep. Kinzinger's trip began in Pakistan, where he touredtheconflict-prone South Wazirstan region by helicopter. He also met with women who have experienced domestic violence and who have been helped by U.S. aid programs, including one woman who had been severely injured by an acid attack. In Afghanistan,the Congressional Delegationmet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and senior military and governmentofficials to discuss the U.S.-Afghanistan relationship. Rep. Kinzinger also visited U.S troops at Camp Marmal, where they shared lunch and discussed the current conditions for troops stationed overseas.
