Kinzinger introduced with his House colleague, Rep. Mike Doyle (D-PA) in March 2017. \r\nThis legislation makes targeted, common-sense reforms to the fee structure used by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and will increase transparency while providing long-term certainty for nuclear plants, including the four located in Congressman Kinzinger's district. \r\nFollowing passage, Congressman Kinzinger, who has long been a supporter of nuclear power, released the following statement:\r\nToday was a good day for bipartisan, bicameral support of nuclear power  which is incredibly important to my district, the state of Illinois, and our country. Over 3,500 of my constituents work at nuclear power plants that have operated safely for decades. This legislation will make the regulatory process more efficient and transparent, not only for today's nuclear fleet, but also for the next generation of clean, reliable nuclear power, all without compromising safety. I'm incredibly proud of all the hard work that went into making this bill a reality and I look forward to the President signing our NUKE Act into law soon\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n    \r\n        \r\n            \r\n        \r\n    \r\n\r\n\r\n  \r\n\r\nThe Congressman's floor speech can be found on his YouTube page, and his remarks as written can be found transcribed below: \r\nMr. Speaker, I rise today in support of S. 512, the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act  which the Senate passed by unanimous consent this morning and is the companion legislation to my bill, H.R. 1320, the Nuclear Utilization of Keynote Energy Act. \r\nThe House Energy and Commerce Committee worked with the Senate to reach agreement on the language in S. 512 to ensure it conforms with the core language in the NUKE Act, passed by the House earlier this year. The NUKE Act, which I was proud to introduce with my Energy and Commerce colleague, Mike Doyle, makes targeted, common-sense reforms to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's fee structure. \r\nThe current fee structure threatens to unnecessarily increase the financial burden on the nation's nuclear fleet  including the FOUR plants I am so proud to represent. This bipartisan bill will ensure transparency, predictability, and fairness in the regulatory process, which will help keep the United States as the global leader of clean, safe, and reliable nuclear power. \r\nThis bill reflects thoughtful bipartisan and bicameral consensus on what is needed for a robust nuclear industry going forward, and I urge my colleagues to join me in voting to enact these important reforms into law. \r\n\r\nRELATED: \r\nCongressman Kinzinger Statement on WH Nuclear Initiatives \r\nVIDEO: WIFR  Congressman Kinzinger introduces bill to protect power plants \r\nOP-ED: Chicago Sun-Times  Kinzinger: Why Nuclear Energy is the Future in Illinois and Globally\r\nThe Braidwood Journal  Kinzinger aims for nuclear regulation relief\r\nVIDEO: Gray DC  Illinois congressman wants jolt of certainty for nuclear power", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://kinzinger.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=399971"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9796880185604095, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
