High school seniors and parents interested in attending an academy should submit completed application packetsby November 30, 2013.\u00a0 \u00a0The unfortunate shutdown forced the cancellation of an Academy Nomination Open House in Boise, but the application deadline remains in place.\u00a0 Application information is available at the Delegation members\u2019 websites or by calling the state offices.\r\n\r\n\tAs authorized by law, U.S. Senators and Congressmen have the honor each year of nominating deserving young women and men to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado; the U.S. Military Academy, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy, Maryland; and the Merchant Marine Academy, New York.\u00a0 Acceptance into these academies provides students with a tuition-free, four-year undergraduate education, valued at approximately $400,000.\u00a0 Graduates have jobs after graduation, as they are commissioned as officers and spend a minimum of five years on duty.\u00a0 Additionally, their education and training make them competitive for graduate programs and future jobs.\r\n\r\n\tThe application deadline is November 30, 2013.\u00a0 In addition to the short application, an essay, three letters of recommendation, ACT/SAT scores, a transcript and class rank at the end of the applicant\u2019s junior year of high school, and a completed principal/guidance counselor form are required.\u00a0 Applicants are also encouraged to apply to all offices involved in academy nominations, including both of your U.S. Senators, your U.S. Representative and the Vice President.\u00a0 Offices require that the application and complete packet must be in by November 30th of the applicant\u2019s senior year of high school.\u00a0 High school graduates who are seventeen years old, but not yet twenty-three, can apply by July 1 of the year they would enter an academy.\u00a0\u00a0\r\n\r\n\tMore information can be obtained by contacting Idaho Delegation staff:\r\n\r\n\tKaren Roetter, (Senator Mike Crapo), (208) 664-5490\r\n\r\n\tTim Petersen Fulton, (Senator Jim Risch), (208) 342-7985\r\n\r\n\tLinda Culver, (Congressman Mike Simpson), (208) 734-7219\r\n\r\n\tLisa Anderson, (Congressman Ra\u00f9l Labrador), (208) 888-3188\r\n\r\n\tYou may access each delegation member\u2019s website through the following links:\u00a0 http://www.crapo.senate.gov/; http://www.risch.senate.gov/; http://www.simpson.house.gov/; and http://www.labrador.house.gov/.\r\n\r\n\tA nomination does not guarantee acceptance into an academy.\u00a0 It is the first step in the process.\u00a0 Applicants will be notified in mid-December if they receive a nomination, but the individual academies make the decisions about actual acceptances.\u00a0 Those completing a nomination application must also open a file with the academies.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://labrador.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=49&itemid=844"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9631398133933544, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
