Criminals convicted of violent crimes would have the opportunity to achieve low risk' status and become eligible for early release. California already has similar laws in place  Propositions 47 and 57  which have hamstrung law enforcement and caused a significant uptick in crime. Without amendments to address these and other concerns, I could not support this legislation. \n\nCongressman Doug LaMalfa is a lifelong farmer representing California's First Congressional District, including Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://lamalfa.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/lamalfa-votes-against-first-step-act"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.7982437275350094, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
