According to HHS, NIH is seeking models that \"closely mimic and can be used to accurately model human embryonic development or other aspects of human biology and that do not rely on the use of human fetal tissue obtained from elective abortions.\"\r\nThis comes from NIH after Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) and 75 Members of Congress sent a letter to HHS Secretary Alex Azar asking to immediately stop approving research applications that require aborted fetal tissue. It also asked HHS to create a timeline for reviewing all currently-funded research to ensure that ethical research methods are used.\r\nCongressman Doug Lamborn issued the following statement regarding the announcement:\r\n\"Buying aborted babies' body parts in order to further scientific research raises serious legal and ethical concerns. Funding this research should have no place at the highest levels of government. I stand with those who cannot speak out for themselves in opposing this practice. I'm encouraged that the NIH is taking a step in the right direction to completely stop funding fetal tissue research by encouraging research that is innovative and ethical.\"", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://lamborn.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=2505"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.864025903865695, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
