These environmental rollbacks have prioritized the short-term economic needs and interests of polluting industries over the long-term interest of public health, the environment, and our planet. \r\nIn the effort to restore these crucial environmental protections, this week I will introduce the Environment and Public Health Restoration Act. My bill would direct the National Academy of Sciences to evaluate and make recommendations to address ten of the most egregious changes to Federal rules and regulations under the Bush Administration, which could have potentially harmful impacts on public health, air quality, water quality, plant and animal wildlife, global climate, or the environment. Based on these recommendations it would then direct Federal departments and agencies to create plans to reverse those impacts that are determined to be harmful by the National Academy of Sciences.\r\nEarth Day reminds us that as human beings, we share our environment with a wide variety of habitats and ecosystems that nurture and sustain a diversity of species. I urge my colleagues in Congress to support this important bill, which will help to ensure our nation's environmental policies properly safeguard our precious environment.\r\nOver the last week, Congresswoman Lee's District office has and will participate in several Earth Day events in the Bay Area, including the following:\r\nSaturday, April 26, 8:30am -12:00pm PST \r\nCastro Valley Earth Day\r\nLake Chabot Regional Park- Castro Valley Creek\r\nFriday, April 25, 11:00am-2:00pm PST \r\nPiedmont Earth Day\r\nPiedmont Park\r\nSaturday April 19, 2008 \r\nBerkeley Earth Day\r\nBerkeley Civic Center Park\r\nOakland Earth Day (hosted simultaneously):\r\nTemescal Creek at Claremont DMV\r\nMorcom Rose Garden \r\nLake Merritt Boating Center\r\nSausal Creek at Diamond Rec Center\r\nPeralta Hacienda Historical Park\r\nYouth Uprising\r\nArroyo Viejo Park \r\nUnity Council (Daniela Attending)\r\nChinatown Earth Day Cleanup\r\nLincoln Square Recreation Center\r\nAlbany Earth Day\r\nCalifornia State Parks Foundation Restoration & Clean-up (East shore State Park)\r\nChabot Space and Science Center Event\r\nCongresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9) is Co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and a member of the Appropriations Committee, where she serves on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education Subcommittee. \r\n# # # \n\t\n\t  \n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\n \n\t    \t  \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tNext Article", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://lee.house.gov/news/press-releases/barbara-lee-celebrates-earth-day"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5969276428222656, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
