Congresswoman Lee released the following statement:\r\nWe cannot allow or afford any extension of the December 31st deadline established by the agreement between the United States and the government of Iraq.\r\nLeaving troops and military contractors in Iraq beyond the end of the year deadline is not in our nation's strategic security interests  an ongoing occupation only contributes to the hostility and destabilizing effects that U.S. military action is having in the region.\r\nThe vast majority of the American public support the current plan to remove all US troops from Iraq by year's end.
