Lhamon and attorney Debo P. Adegbile to six-year terms on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.\r\nThe U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is an independent, bipartisan agency charged with advising the President and Congress on civil rights matters and issuing a federal civil rights enforcement report. \r\nThe Congresswoman issued the following statement regarding the appointments:\r\n\u201cI commend President Obama\u2019s decision to appoint Cathernine Lhamon\u00a0 and Debo Adegbile to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Catherine has dedicated her life to protecting and strengthening civil rights for all Americans, working with educators across the country to defend equality for for students,\u201d Congresswoman Lee said. \u201cFrom the Supreme Court to courthouses around the country, Debo Adegbile has been a champion for American values and civil rights.
