The \"American People's Dividend,\" presented today by the Progressive Caucus, proposes a $300 tax credit for every man,  \r\nwoman and child in America. The Progressive Caucus plan is part of a\r\nlarger budget framework that will protect Social Security\r\nand Medicare, pay down the federal debt, provide tax credits, and\r\nvastly increase spending on education, health care, housing,\r\nalternative energy, and veterans programs. \"It is evident that President Bush's Plan will help the very rich\r\nfar more than others,\" said Lee. \"President Bush's Tax Plan leaves\r\nout childless couples, senior citizens, stay-at-home mothers and the\r\nvery poor.\" Economists agree that Bush's tax cut plan will cost somewhere between $2.0 and $2.7 trillion rather than the $1.6 trillion  \r\nclaimed. The Bush Tax Plan uses almost the entire projected budget\r\nsurplus for tax cuts, 43% of which go to the wealthiest 1%\r\nof Americans, while giving little to nothing to those in the lowest tax\r\nbrackets. Under the Bush plan, a low-income family of four\r\nmaking less than $13,000 per year would receive less than $100 in tax\r\ncredit. Under the American People's Dividend, the same\r\nfamily would receive $300 hundred per person, amounting to $1,200  a\r\ndifference of $1,100. \"President Bush's Tax Plan is \"Reaganomics\" revisited. We learned during the 1980's that a huge tax cut for the wealthy,  \r\nparticularly when combined with a significant increase in military\r\nfunding, leads to growing deficits and economic instability for  \r\n   the poorest Americans,\" said Lee. \"Trickle Down Economics' did not work then, and will not work as currently proposed by  \r\n   President Bush. Our tax plan will stimulate the economy, while protecting Social Security and Medicare, funding federal  \r\n   programs, and leaving enough money to pay off the long term national debt.\" \"With the skyrocketing costs of housing, medicine, college education, and other important and necessary items, we must act  \r\n   now to benefit people who need this tax credit to enhance the quality of their lives,\" concluded Congresswoman Lee. \r\n###\r\n\t\n\t  \n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\n \n\t    \t  \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tNext Article", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://lee.house.gov/news/press-releases/progressive-caucus-tax-plan-benefits-all-americans"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4404421672224998, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
