The bill contains numerous provisions crafted by the Congressman as a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. These provisions will have a positive impact on Chicagoland residents, including protecting Lake Michigan from invasive carp, restoring Bubbly Creek, and addressing shoreline erosion.\r\n\r\n\tAs the senior Illinois member on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have worked in the committee to advance vital local water infrastructure projects that will improve the lives of Chicagoland residents, said Congressman Lipinski. WRDA is vital to maintaining the Illinois Waterway system that runs through the heart of the Third District and strengthens the local and regional economy. I was proud to have worked in committee to raise the federal cost share for the Brandon Road Lock and Dam project from 50% to 80% which will save Illinois taxpayers significant money. It will also help ensure that this critical project to protect the Great Lakes from invasive Asian carp will proceed. I was also happy to include provisions that will prevent the spread of Asian carp, advance the restoration of Bubbly Creek, fix our eroding shoreline, and restore the Chicago Area Rivers eco-system.\r\n\r\n\tThe full WRDA bill will authorize the study and construction of dozens of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects that build and maintain inland waterway locks and dams, ports, and other water infrastructure, while also providing flood relief, and restoring damaged ecosystems. Infrastructure projects authorized under the legislation will create good paying jobs, and the bill has won the endorsement of both business and labor groups across the country.\r\n\r\n\tCongressman Lipinski ensured several key provisions were included in the final 2020 Water Resources Development Act, including provisions:\r\n \r\n\t\r\n\t\tAuthorizing the Bubbly Creek ecosystem restoration project;\r\n\t\r\n\t\tAuthorizing the Brandon Road lock and dam project in Joliet at 80% federal cost share instead of the usual 50% share, in order to help prevent the spread of Asian carp into Lake Michigan;\r\n\t\r\n\t\tDirecting the Army Corps to prioritize completion of a study to fix the eroding Chicago Shoreline;\r\n\t\r\n\t\tAuthorizing a study to develop eco-system restoration projects for the Chicago Area Rivers system;\r\n\t\r\n\t\tIncorporating more sustainable and cost efficient, natural infrastructure into the Army Corps of Engineers' efforts to reduce flooding and restore ecosystems;\r\n\t\r\n\t\tRaising the federal cost share for inland waterways system infrastructure projects from 50% to 65% for 10 years to help the Army Corps of Engineers modernize our inland waterways system more quickly and effectively, while reducing the burden on local taxpayers.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://lipinski.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=91&itemid=6569"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0290939826518297, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
