LoBiondo (NJ-02) today applauded the 3-person team from Veterans Memorial Middle School in Vineland for winning the 2017 Congressional App Challenge. Their submission - \u201cEating Green\u201d - is a mobile application designed to help consumers navigate the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recall notices on food products as well as health ratings of local restaurants. \u201cCongratulations to Ljakadja, Hannah and Nishi for their innovative and informative app. It is clear they were looking to assist Americans\u2019 desire to eat healthy and know the latest recall notices for unsafe foods. I was impressed by the substantial thought and execution displayed in this app,\u201d said LoBiondo. \u00a0\u201cI applaud all of the students who participated in this year\u2019s Congressional App Challenge and encourage you and your classmates to continue creating forward-looking technology.\u201d The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide competition aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications for mobile devices. The Challenge seeks to highlight the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education while spurring friendly competition between competing teams. This is the first year middle school students were invited to compete. Seventeen (17) teams comprised of fifty (50) students across South Jersey competed in the fourth annual challenge. This is the fourth year of the Congressional App Challenge and the fourth year LoBiondo\u2019s office has hosted the competition for South Jersey students.
