Today, Congressman Ben Ray Lujn (D-N.M.), the U.S. House Assistant Speaker, announced the nominations of students from New Mexico's Third Congressional District to enter the United States Service Academies. Our state has a long tradition of serving our nation in all the branches of our military. Having the chance to nominate some of New Mexico's best and brightest young people to our United States Service Academies is a distinct honor for me each year, saidLujn. I am proud of each of these students, who have demonstrated a commitment to service, the drive to succeed, and tremendous dedication to our state and our nation. Congressman Lujn's 2019 Service Academy nominees include: U.S. Military Academy West Point, NY Fiona Balasuit Farmington High/San Juan College Fruitland Roshan Prasad Los Alamos High Los Alamos Juan Romero Los Alamos High Embudo Gunnar Schwab New Mexico Military Institute Farmington Evan Watry Explore Academy Charter School Rio Rancho U.S. Naval Academy Annapolis, MD Summer Armijo-Rotunno - Santa Fe High Santa Fe Jacob Braunschweiger Rio Rancho High Rio Rancho Raymond Chapman Aztec High Aztec Jason Knight Logan High Tucumcari Dalen Montoya Santa Fe High Santa Fe Trystan Osburn Los Alamos High Los Alamos Roshan Prasad Los Alamos High Los Alamos Juan Romero Los Alamos High Embudo Jeremy Torres New Mexico Military Institute - Gallup Evan Watry Explore Academy Charter School Rio Rancho U.S. Air Force Academy Colorado Springs, CO Jacob Braunschweiger Rio Rancho High Rio Rancho Teagun Glenn - Albuquerque Academy Rio Rancho Jeremy Kalminski New Mexico Military Institute Albuquerque Jason Knight Logan High Tucumcari Bryan Littlejohn Clovis High Clovis Trystan Osburn Los Alamos High Los Alamos Roshan Prasad Los Alamos High Los Alamos Juan Romero Los Alamos High Embudo Evan Watry Explore Academy Charter School Rio Rancho US Merchant Marines Academy Kings Point, NY Owen Carlton Quantico High Hagerman Raymond Chapman Aztec High Aztec Interviews took place throughout the Third Congressional District in early November. Congressman Lujn's Service Academy Selection Board considered all the applications from the young New Mexicans interested in attending the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Academy nominees submit an application that includes a personal statement, resume, letters of reference, academic transcripts, and standardized test scores. If nominated by Congressman Lujn, applicants must meet the individual admission requirements for each academy. Students may be nominated for more than one service academy. The academies make the final decision on who will receive an appointment of admission. Selection to U.S. Service Academies is among the most competitive and rigorous in the country; regardless of the number of qualified applicants each Member of Congress nominates, only a select few from each Congressional District are accepted by the service academies each year. Those selected will enter the academies in June 2020.
